The Amazin' Race!

Amazing Race!

The Zone in conjunction with BC Youth Week, and the Downtown Penticton Association hosted the first annual Amazin’ Race.

If anyone has seen the show on TV they would know the format.  For those who have not, our race provided 10 teams of two with the opportunity to navigate the City of Penticton to find and negotiate the challenges offered by 10 sponsoring businesses.

With merely four weeks to put this event together it was a great opportunity for our staff youth team to shine…and that they did!

The Amazin’ Race was simply that, AMAZIN’!  A shotgun start at 10:30 where teams were faced with a surprise guest, each team was ‘blessed’ with a member of Katimavik who acted as a race official/chaperone.  Then on to three challenges just to earn the map they would need to move on to navigate the city.

From there they moved on to 10 stations that provided a challenge relative to the business sponsoring them.  Starbucks required the participants to make a beverage for customers, RCMP a mini P.A.R.E.  physical course, Murrays Pizza had the youth make pizzas (which they then were able to enjoy eating), Penticton Fire Dept. a bucket brigade challenge, Chatter’s Salon a wig fitting….and the list goes on.

The participants had a great time, there was laughter, smiles, buzz and even a few groans and moans….if there weren’t then we wouldn’t have been challenging enough.  And naturally the smiles at the finish line were much  larger than at the beginning of the day.

Special thanks to all the volunteers from the youth community, the volunteers from WorkZone, and those amazing youth from Katimavik who actually got up and ran, yes ran the course with the teams that chose to run!

We’re looking forward to the

AMAZIN’ RACE 2011!
